Technology Thread added to the For-pd course

FOR-PD is adding a new thread to the FOR-PD course beginning summer 2008. The “Technology and Literacy” addition to the FOR-PD course explores how teachers can utilize technology to support reading instruction and students’ reading development in grades PreK-12.

When teachers visit the “Technology & Literacy”  icon (shown above by the heading), they will be provided with a variety of options (e.g., a quality video clip, or a relevant website, an audio clip, or a webquest, or an interactive activity) that demonstrate how to integrate literacy and technology. This new resource offers a relevant, research-based alignment with each FOR-PD lesson objectives and content.

We believe that teachers will be motivated, and will become better equipped, to use technology in their classrooms to support literacy in new and innovative ways.

Using Web 2.0 Technology

While Web 2.0 technologies are not new, they are being used in innovative ways. These tools are transforming education, classrooms, and social networks, particularly for those whose insight allows them to see the possibilities.

Steve Hargadon is an educational technology consultant. This month we thought you might like to read his blog post entitled, Open (and Fast!) Professional Development. The post includes video highlighting Open Professional Development, an open course where teachers learned how to use these ‘open’ tools, using the tools. 

Take some time to watch this video and then go exploring. You will learn a great deal about how these tools can and are being used to connect people and classrooms in communities of learning.
