Come join us for a day of learning focused on motivating students, improving literacy, and preparing our students for the 21st Century! This is a free professional day for all elementary and secondary educators, including literacy coaches, library media specialists, reading specialists, and administrators.

Focus: Motivation, Literacy, and the 21st Century

Location: The UCF College of Education (Gymnasium)

Time: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (Registration from 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM in the Education Complex Gymnasium.)

For directions to the college, please visit http://campusmap.ucf.edu/address.php. If you have any problems getting to the site or if the site doesn’t tell you specific enough directions, please contact jireland@mail.ucf.edu. We will be providing FREE parking on the day of the event in the Parking Garage A or 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 4p.m. as long as a copy of the flyer is posted on the inside of your vehicle on the front windshield. A campus map is also provided at http://campusmap.ucf.edu/flash/index.php. After parking, please arrive at the first level of the College of Education building and visit us at the registration table inside the Gymnasium.

You will be on your own for lunch. Einstein Bagels in the Education Building will be open as well as other restaurants on campus. Keynote Speakers:

David Booth
David Booth is Professor Emertius in education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. He is one of the leading experts on literacy in Canada. Dr. Booth writes on literacy, boys and literacy, literacy and technology, and poetry and the arts. In his most recent book, Reading Doesn't Matter Anymore: Shattering the Myths of Literacy, Dr. Booth calls for a redefinition of reading. He advocates that we should take reading beyond the boundaries of literature, if we wish to convince kids of its value in their lives. He has also been a literacy consultant and has spoken across Canada and around the world. Some of Dr. Booth's books include: Reading Doesn't Matter Anymore: Shattering the Myths of Literacy (2006), Even Hockey Players Read (2002), and the Literacy Principal (2002).

Dr. Timothy Blair
Dr. Timothy Blair is Professor in literacy at the University of Central Florida, College of Education. He is a national figure in literacy, a prolific writer, and a literacy advocate. Timothy Blair, a teacher's teacher, founded a program that gives his University of Central Florida, College of Education students a unique opportunity for one-on-one experience teaching reading to under served children in a disadvantaged community. Some of Dr. Blair's books include: Principles and Practices of Teaching Reading (10th Edition), New Teacher's Performance-Based Guide to Culturally Diverse Classrooms (2003), and Teaching Reading: Diagnosis, Direct Instruction, and Practice (2nd Edition).
