The FOR-PD project provides standards-based and scientifically research-based professional development with teachers’ and students’ needs in mind. FOR-PD meets Competency 2 [PDF: 6 pages / 187k] of the Florida Reading Endorsement/Certification. Teachers who take the course will increase their basic knowledge base about reading and reading instruction. Participation in this interactive, practical course empowers teachers to use innovative, creative, and effective strategies to help all children learn proficiently.
District Collaboration Expectations
District collaboration is critical to the FOR-PD project’s success. Districts are asked to advertise and offer FOR-PD as they would any district-offered professional development. The course can be offered as:
- a fourteen-week course (1 lesson per week)
- a summer institute or any configuration agreeable to the district, FOR-PD Office and FOR-PD facilitator
We request that you complete the FOR-PD District Collaboration document to become a collaborating district. Please download this form [PDF: 1 page / 99k], fill it out and return it via email to forpd@mail.ucf.edu or fax it to (407) 207-4965.
District Registration Procedure
Starting fall 2007, all participants, whether they are enrolling via Open Enrollment or District registration, must complete our online registration form. Due to the nature of our grant, we must maintain accurate historical databases so that DOE can determine who has completed the FOR-PD course.
Below you will find the process for district registration.
- Districts will need to submit the Excel registration form. This form must be received in the FOR-PD office by the posted deadline (see calendar above) . The district registration form can be found at http://forpd.ucf.edu/register/regfile_district.xls. Please submit this form via email to forpdreg@mail.ucf.edu.
Note: ** We will be unable to accept district registrations after the posted deadline. Nor will we be able to accept changes/additions to any district registration after the deadline. **
While collecting your district registration information, please inform your teachers that they must also go to and complete the online registration form. The online registration form will be posted once registration opens at http://forpd.ucf.edu/register/register.html. If a teacher neglects to complete the online registration form, he/she will not be placed into a course. - Enter required information for each course section in a separate file: minimum of 25 and a maximum of 30 participants per section. (Information required includes participants' names and contact information.)
This free online staff development course will be available for any certified teacher. A course section contains a minimum of 25 and a maximum of 30 participants. Participants can come from non-public schools and multiple districts if you partner with other districts, or are in a consortium. - Please indicate which facilitator you would like to use or let us know if you need assistance in locating a facilitator. (Note: The facilitator database will grow weekly.) Certified FOR-PD facilitators guide participants through the course. Please let us know if you need a list of facilitators, from your district, to aid in the selection process or the FOR-PD office can assist in locating a certified facilitator for you. Districts are encouraged to invite persons in their district to become certified trainers. This would enable a district to have a cadre of trainers available to facilitate the course. Facilitator criteria and applications are available online.
- Email the registration file of the participants to us at forpdreg@mail.ucf.edu. This form must be received in the FOR‑PD office on or before the posted deadline .
District registration information should always come from the district staff development office.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Richard Scott, FOR-PD Database Specialist, at 407-207-4940 or at riscott@mail.ucf.edu.
