Topic: Technology/General Questions about FOR-PD
fac001 >> Hello everyone. Welcome to tonight's Technology Help Chat. At tonight's chat, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers about technology used in the course.
Sophie >> greetings all-
fac001 >> The chat will be an hour long and conclude at 8:30PM.
fac001 >> I would like to introduce members of the FORPD staff that are present in tonight's chat.
fac001 >> Melanie Edwards is our Helpdesk Supervisor.
fac001 >> I'm Richard Scott, our Data Management Specialist.
Ilene >> !
fac001 >> I would like to go over the chat protocol for tonight's chat. Please make sure you follow the protocol as this makes the chat flow more smoothly.
fac001 >> The Exclamation Point - !
fac001 >> An exclamation point is like raising your hand. Type this symbol whenever you have a question or a comment related to what is being discussed.
fac001 >> The Pound Sign - #
fac001 >> A pound sign indicates that you are finished typing your question or comment. Use this symbol when you are finished with your thought to indicate that you are finished typing.
fac001 >> The Ellipse - . . .
fac001 >> Use the Ellipse when you have a great deal to type so you do not keep participants waiting to read your entire thought. By breaking your comment up, you let participants know you are actively doing something rather than just typing a long response or question.
fac001 >> To type in the chat window you must type in the white box below ENTER YOUR MESSAGE HERE and then hit the enter button. What you have typed will show up in the chat window.
fac001 >> As I said earlier, this chat will cover technology issues and questions. Please make sure you follow the chat protocol if you have a question to ask or something to say.
fac001 >> If there aren't any questions about the chat protocol - I will turn the chat over to Melanie.
Melanie >> Thank you Richard.

fac001 >> If you have a question or comment, please follow chat protocol

Melanie >> Yes, to view your submitted log, you will need to go to the Literacy Log section in the course.
Melanie >> You will see a View Scores button next to the literacy logs you have submitted...
Melanie >> When you click on that, you will then see each attempt number...
Melanie >> Click on a number and the submitted literacy log will be available for you to view, along with your answers.
Melanie >> Any feedback from your facilitator will also be shown from this view.
Valerie >> !
Cheryl >> Can you make changes once it is submitted and will the facilitator show any grades for that log before the end.#
Melanie >> The facilitator will provide feedback and should let you know once the log has been reviewed.
Melanie >> You will receive one final grade for all the lessons at the end of the course.
Melanie >> You can make changes by submitting a second literacy log...
Cheryl Webb >> Thank You I will follow your advise and let you know if it works. Thanks#

Maureen >> thanks #
Melanie >> sure#
Melanie >> Valerie, your question?
Valerie >> !I am printing the course as I go - is there an easy way to print everything without having to go back and forth?#
Vanessa >> !
Pamela >> !
Melanie >> You can use the compile tool to print each lesson...
Melanie >> There is a mini-tutorial on using the compile tool found in Lesson 1.
Suzanne >> !
Valerie >> !Thank you - I'll go back to 1#
Melanie >> you're welcome
Melanie >> Luz, your question?
Luz >> What happens if the lesson goes in after the due date??? Will I lose points?

Luz >> ok
Melanie >> Did you have any technical questions Luz?
Dimitra >> !
Luz >> Yes, how do I log my literacy and send it
Melanie >> Lesson 1 provides detailed directions on how to submit the literacy log.
Luz >> thanks#
Melanie >> If you still need help, feel free to give the helpdesk a call and we can walk you through it.
Melanie >> You're welcome Luz. Yes
Melanie >> Vanessa, your question?
Vanessa >> How can I print the mini-lesson within the main lesson without using all of the extra color on my printer? Or is there a way to shorten all of the lessons?
Melanie >> I'm not sure I understand what you mean by mini-lesson. Could you elaborate?
Vanessa >> There are various sites that we are sent to that must be read to fully understand the concept being taught. There is a bit of information in each. It's almost like a slide-show presentation. How can I print the lesson/slide-show without all of the color?
Maureen >> !
Melanie >> I see...
Melanie >> You should be able to adjust the settings in your printer to print in black & white only.
Melanie >> Unfortunately, those are outside links that are not administered by FOR-PD, so we cannot control the length or content.
Vanessa >> I've tried that but it doesn't seem to work....I'll work it out. Thank you#
Melanie >> You can call the helpdesk Vanessa and we can walk through it to better understand.
Vanessa >> Thank you#
Melanie >> you're welcome
Melanie >> Pamela, did you have a question?
Pamela >> Melanie, Where do we go to get the information for the L part of K-W-L#
Edith >> Suzanne Saunders just sent you an e-mail to your Osceola e-mail#
Melanie >> Does that answer your question Pamela?
Pamela >>
Melanie >> Suzanne, your question?
Suzanne >> on page 43 it says that you should print the quiz before you read the lesson, how can you do that?
Melanie >> You can go to the quiz section and click on the lesson quiz you wish to print...
Melanie >> You will be able to view it and as long as you don't Submit the quiz, it will not count as one of your attempts.
Melanie >> You should be able to print the blank quiz in this manner.
Melanie >> #
Suzanne >> then just review questions and then do what so it won't count
Melanie >> Does that answer your question?
Melanie >> I’m sorry
QING >> Hi every one, is there anyone for Dr. Choice's class?
Melanie >> You can just leave the area and it will not count as an attempt. As long as you don't submit the quiz.
Suzanne >> I understand thank-you #
Melanie >> you're welcome
Melanie >> Dimitra, your question?
Dimitra >> you just answered my question, thanks and hi Amy#
Melanie >> ok, you're welcome
Melanie >> Maureen, did you have another question?
William >> !
Maureen >> It's about grading....I have a student who scored 12 on the first quiz and when I look at the submission page it shows "in progress" -- but he hasn't answered anything on this 2nd attempt. Do I have to do anything other than ask him to continue?
Maureen >> I have 2 or 3 that have "in progress" but the other s have passing grades on the first attempt
Melanie >> Perhaps you need to force grade those attempts.
Maureen >> ok...thanks
Maureen >> #
Melanie >> you're welcome
Melanie >> William, your question
Ilene >> !
Melanie >> It looks like William is no longer here. Ilene, your question?
Patricia >> !
Ilene >> If I want to chat with my group, do I have to reserve a chat room to do so?
Melanie >> No, the chat rooms are always available and accessible to participants and facilitators. You can use Chat rooms 1-4, which are only for your section.
Melanie >> Just make sure your group knows which room and the date & time of the chat.
Ilene >> OK, also how do I exit the chat room? Do I just click on quit?#
Melanie >> Yes
Ilene >> thank you and good night#
Melanie >> you're welcome
Melanie >> Patricia, your question?

Cheryl >> !
Melanie >> yes, you can take the quizzes up to 3 times
Melanie >> The highest score will count.
Patricia >> thanks#
Melanie >> sure
Melanie >> Cheryl?
Cheryl >> How do you find your partners for your class? I went to Tuesday's Chat and there wasn't a facilitator. It was impossible to connect with anyone that way.
Melanie >> You can contact your fellow course members via course mail or the discussion board.
Luz >> >>I had the same problem.#
Cheryl >> O.k. So just e-mail someone at random and ask them to join your group.
Melanie >> You could, or you could post a request in the discussion board and those interested will reply.
Cheryl >> Great, This internet class is new to me. Thanks#
Melanie >> You're welcome.
Melanie >> Are there any other questions about the technology used in the course?
Pamela >> it is new to me as well
Valerie >> !Sorry, but our area is in a tornado watch and the lightning is overhead-I've stayed as long as I can#
Suzanne >> !
Melanie >> Yes go ahead Suzanne
Suzanne >> Is there a place that you can find a list of the students in your class?
Melanie >> In course mail, when you compose a message, if you click on Browse next to the To field, you will see a list of all members of that course.
Suzanne >> thanks#
Melanie >> no problem
Felicia >> !
Melanie >> Yes Felicia?
Felicia >> Is this the appropriate place to locate a second study partner?#
Melanie >> Do you mean the chat?'
Felicia >> Yes - I've located one partner through the discussion board, but I need one more.#
Melanie >> This chat is provided by FOR-PD as a chance to get your technical questions answered. There are lots of people present that may not be in your section...
Melanie >> It is probably best to make a second request, or perhaps you can contact your facilitator and ask for suggestions.
Melanie >> He/she may know of someone else who needs a partner.
Melanie >> Are there any more questions?
Cheryl >> #
Felicia >> Good idea to contact the facilitator if I can't find another person. This is my first Chat experience and I didn't realize the scope. Thanks for the help.#
Melanie >> you're welcome
Melanie >> Cheryl did you have another question?
VANDA >> hi
Mary >> !Would you go into more detail about how I can communicate in the chat rooms during the week with my partners?
Melanie >> You will just need to schedule a chat time when everyone is available...
Melanie >> You can all log in at that time and access the agreed upon chat room...
Mary >> !Do you "reserve" it?
Melanie >> No, there is no need to do so...
Melanie >> Chat rooms 1-4 are only available for your specific section...
Mary >> !#
Mary >> !Thank you#
Melanie >> You can let your facilitator know you plan to have a chat, if you wish.
Melanie >> You're welcome.
