FOR-PD Chat Transcript
Date: April 10, 2007
Time: 7:30-8:30PM EST
Topic: Technology/General Questions about FOR-PD
fac001 >> Hello everyone. Welcome to tonight's Technology Help Chat. At tonight's chat, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers about technology used in the course.
fac001 >> The chat will be an hour long and conclude at 8:30PM.
fac001 >> I would like to introduce members of the FORPD staff that are present in tonight's chat.
fac001 >> Melanie Edwards is our Helpdesk Supervisor.
fac001 >> I'm Richard Scott, FOR-PD's Data Manager.
fac001 >> I would like to go over the chat protocol for tonight's chat. Please make sure you follow the protocol as this makes the chat flow more smoothly.
fac001 >> The Exclamation Point - !
fac001 >> An exclamation point is like raising your hand. Type this symbol whenever you have a question or a comment related to what is being discussed.
fac001 >> The Pound Sign - #
fac001 >> A pound sign indicates that you are finished typing your question or comment. Use this symbol when you are finished with your thought to indicate that you are finished typing.
fac001 >> The Ellipse - . . .
fac001 >> Use the Ellipse when you have a great deal to type so you do not keep participants waiting to read your entire thought. By breaking your comment up, you let participants know you are actively doing something rather than just typing a long response or question.
fac001 >> To type in the chat window you must type in the white box below ENTER YOUR MESSAGE HERE and then hit the enter button. What you have typed will show up in the chat window.
fac001 >> As I said earlier, this chat will cover technology issues and questions. Please make sure you follow the chat protocol if you have a question to ask or something to say.
fac001 >> If there aren't any questions about the chat protocol - I will turn the chat over to Melanie.
Melanie >> Good evening everyone.
Melanie >> We have a small group, but are there any questions?
Melanie >> No? Everyone is doing ok with the technology of the course?
Dali >>
Melanie >> Dali?
Dali >> none, just hit the keyboard, sorry.
Dali >> #
Melanie >> no problem
Dorothy >> !
Melanie >> yes Dorothy
Dorothy >> I have a participant who attempted the post course survey...
Dorothy >> but thought she would return another time...
Dorothy >> she is unable to finish it.
Melanie >> It sounds like she hit submit even though she wasn't finished.
Dorothy >> That's correct.
Melanie >> If she wishes to take it over, we can reset it, but since it doesn't count towards her course completion grade...
Melanie >> it's probably ok to just let it slide.
Dorothy >> Thanks, Melanie. :)
Melanie >> you're welcome, if she wants us to reset it, let us know
Melanie >> Are there any other questions?
Quernande >> Is there a specific topic that we are supposed to be talking about?
Melanie >> Tonight's chat is for answering questions about the technology of the course.
Melanie >> Do you have any technical questions or concerns, we can answer?
Quernande >> No
Melanie >> Well it seems there aren't really any questions for tonight. If that's the case, we can finish early. I can stick around for a while in case anyone shows up a little late.
Dali >> Thank you
Karen >> Thank you!
Quernande >> Thanks for your time, have a good evening.
Melanie >> thanks, you too
Rebecca >> !

Rebecca >> Thanks for all the hard work.
Rebecca >> #
Melanie >> I'm glad to hear that!
Melanie >> I will be sure to let Jawann know.
Melanie >> For those of you sticking around, did you have any questions? I think there may be some new people in the room.
Kathy >> !
Marlys >> So, is this the tech chat?
Melanie >> yes, this is the tech chat for tonight
Melanie >> Kathy, you have a question?
Kathy >> This session is only for technology questions, not the course itself#
Melanie >> right, for technology questions about the course, but not course content questions
Marlys >> !
Melanie >> yes Marlys
Marlys >> I haven't been able to access the FOR-PD monthly sites that are given in the lessons. Am I doing something wrong?
Melanie >> No, there are some links that are inactive in the course content.
Marlys >> It seems like almost all of them
Melanie >> You can try to check the resources page within the lesson - you can find it at the end of each lesson.
Melanie >> If they are not updated there, you can forward them to us for updating...
Marlys >> How do I forward them?
Melanie >> you can just email us with the links and the lesson you found them at
Marlys >> email tech support?
Melanie >> the archive for the strategies can be found online at http://forpd.ucf.edu/strategies/archive.html
