Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> thanks

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> heh. I am most definitely here...just waiting for...

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Hello

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> and here he is

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> :D

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Good evening everyone

Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> Is this where dorothy zabloski is to be

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Id like to introduce Jessica Vargas, our new Webmaster

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> She'll be answering any questions that you have this evening

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Lets go over the basics real fast

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Please use the ! if you have a question

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> the # indicates that you've finished typing

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Any questions?

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Alrighty, Jessica now has the floor

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> Thank you Richard. :) Does anyone have any questions? #

Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> ! Sorry, storm here and missed Richard

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> Tina do you have a question? #

Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> About the course or technical problems?

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> This is about any technical problems, comments or even suggestions you might have for us. #

Maura Fabrizi (maurafabrizi)>> Thanks, Tina, I would have wondered where everyone else was.

Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> Feel good about most tech, learning a lot about reading

Dorothy Zablotsky (dorothyzablotsky)>> !

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Yes, Dorothy . Go ahead

Dorothy Zablotsky (dorothyzablotsky)>> I'm glad to see many of my students here, please tell us how the course is going so far for you.

Dorothy Zablotsky (dorothyzablotsky)>> #

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Is that a question for Ms. Vargas, or the course participants?

Dorothy Zablotsky (dorothyzablotsky)>> course participants :) nice for making this easier for me. heh.

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>> !

Jon Gilbert (jongilbert)>> Hi Renee, I recognize Carol..

Maura Fabrizi (maurafabrizi)>> I thought of this class as I was reading aloud to my class and stopping frequently to check for comprehension. I know my autistic students are happy to be back into the routine of school. I am working to get outside readers into the class as a reverse inclusion for a little bit of time each day.

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> Gloria, what is your question?

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> #

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>> There's so much information, and all of it is extremely practical. Are we going to have access once the course ends?#

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> Unfortunately, you do not have access to the course once it ends. However the resources can all be accessed from the web site.#

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>> Thank you, but i'm sorry to hear you say that.#

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>> great .thanks.#

Jon Gilbert (jongilbert)>> Is there supposed to be an instructor here to guide the discussion?

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Ms. Sargent, did you have a question?

Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> I am using my strategies and vocalizing them to the students. We list them on the board. They know I am taking a course, and want to know what I have to do. However, I would like to work ahead as rapidly as possible. I have another course that starts next week. Could you make the unavailable, available?#

Heather Zielke (heatherzielke)>> !

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> What did you need us to make available?

Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> The quizzes for 8 - 14 are not available

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Are they still not available after you complete quiz 7?

Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> I have completed 7, and really cannot remember at this moment, will check and come back

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Ms. Zielke, did you have a question?

Heather Zielke (heatherzielke)>> Now that we are in the 6th week of the course, is there assistance that participants need in being successful in completing the course?#

Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> !

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Ms. Zielke, everything that the participants need to complete the course successfully is located within the course

Tina Sargent (tinasargent)>> 8 is, but the others are not. Thanks

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Ms. Sargent, each quiz opens up when you complete the one before that

Dorothy Zablotsky (dorothyzablotsky)>> !

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Yes, Ms. Zablotsky

Dorothy Zablotsky (dorothyzablotsky)>> I've suggested that my students not go too far ahead as we do like to have interaction. I can see why Tina is concerned though. Thanks for answering her question regarding quizzes#

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>> !

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Not a problem. :)

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Ms. Carrasco, did you have a question?

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>> I found the print rich environments lesson extremely useful as I was setting up my classroom. It was great! no question.#

Krysten Burlage (krystenburlage)>> !

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Thank you for the kind comments. :)

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Ms. Burlage, did you have a question?

Krysten Burlage (krystenburlage)>> Gloria, I also liked the lesson on print rich environments, but our Reading First representative told us at the end of last year that we should start the year off with pretty much bare walls.

Krysten Burlage (krystenburlage)>> She recommended this because the students have no ownership of what is on the walls if it is already up there when they come in.

Krysten Burlage (krystenburlage)>> no question #

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Does anyone else have a question for Ms. Vargas, regarding a technical aspect of the FOR-PD course?

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>> !

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Yes, Ms. Carrasco?

Jon Gilbert (jongilbert)>> !

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>> Interesting...Other than their work, what else that's from the students should be put up?#

Krysten Burlage (krystenburlage)>> !

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Yes, Mr. Gilbert... did you have a question?

Jon Gilbert (jongilbert)>> A non-essential curious technical question...

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> sure, go ahead :D

Maura Fabrizi (maurafabrizi)>> That makes sense about the walls at the beginning of the school year. I always feel I need to have the classroom done for the Open House. I guess I do it more for the parents at the beginning of the year.

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Please limit the chat to technical questions.

Jon Gilbert (jongilbert)>> I read, I think in chapter 1 that it is possible to print the quiz beforehand - not that it truly matters because we can take it as many times as necessary -- but just curious.#

Carol Hedrick (carolhedrick)>> !

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> Jon, when you open the quiz by selecting its title, hit simultaneously ctrl + p (or apple + p if you are on a mac) it will then print the quiz for you#

Jon Gilbert (jongilbert)>> Cool!

Jon Gilbert (jongilbert)>> :) :) :)

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Yes, Ms. Hendrick... did you have a question?

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Thanks for your question Mr. Gilbert.

Carol Hedrick (carolhedrick)>> When I am viewing something that I need to in a lesson, the "buffering part takes a long time", does it do so because I am on dial up?#

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> Yes, your connection speed determines how long actual pages and web related items load...

Cynthia Majewski (cynthiamajewski)>> I printed up a couple but then figured out it was easier to copy the lessons on Word and then I can refer to the lesson while taking the quiz. I can go back and forth with ease.

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> and in your case those pages will take longer because you are on dial-up#

Carol Hedrick (carolhedrick)>> thought so, thanks! great online class!#

Jessica Vargas (jessicavargas)>> thank you Carol :) #

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Does anyone else have a question for Ms. Vargas

Krysten Burlage (krystenburlage)>> Gloria, come to Room 1 if you would like to chat since we should keep the questions to tech questions.

Jon Gilbert (jongilbert)>> I print the lesson with a "two-pages per sheet" format. It doesn't use too much paper that way. I highlight the essential text (on paper) and later go back and click on the non-essential links and games, in the electronic form.

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>>

gloria carrasco (gloriacarrasco)>>

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Does anyone else have a tech question for Ms. Vargas?

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Well, thank you all for showing up.

FOR-PD Project (alachua005)>> Please feel free to contact our helpdesk if you have any questions throughout the course.

Cynthia Majewski (cynthiamajewski)>> I also found out that when I copy the lessons on Word I can read while not online and still hit the links. Anything I think is really important I cut and paste to remember.

Jon Gilbert (jongilbert)>> Nice idea, Cynthia
